1、A Last July 4th,three police officers in New York, Louis Sojo? Esanidy Cuevas and Michael Rivera, went into a supermarket to get something cold to drink. Once inside, a security guard came over and asked for their help with a suspected thief. The woman in question didn’t have the look of a carrre criminal. She was obvioulsy scared, and her cheeks were wet with tears. The officers looked inside her bag.“All we saw was containers of food. We didn’t see anything else,”Cuevas told CBS. “I’m hungry,” she explained quietly. Caught red-handed, the woman no doubt expected to be arrested for the crime of being hungry while poor. But the officers had other ideas. “We’ll pay for her food,”Sojo told the surprised security guard. They picked up the woman’s bag and escorted (护送)her to a cash register, where each paid $ 10 for her. She would not be arrested today. All the woman could do was weep in gratitude (感激). Drying her tears, she repeated,“Thank you, thank you.” She wasn’t the only one touched by this kind act.“It was a very beautiful moment,” says Paul Bozymowski, who happened to be there. He was so taken by what he’d witnessed that he posted a photo online for all to see. But attention was never what the officers sought. They were driven by a far more common emotion. As Sojo told CNN,“When you look at someone’s face and see that they need you and that they’ re actually hungry,it’s pretty difficult as a human being to walk away from something like this.” Why did the officers go into the supermarket?

A.They went to buy something.

B.They went to help a woman.

6、B Here is an interesting fact about calendars (历法)that you probably didn’t know. The whole world, except Ethiopia, has adopted the Gregorian Calendar, a calendar with 365 days in a year and 366 days in a leap year (闰年). On the other hand,Ethiopia has accepted the Coptic Calendar, which is quite different from the Gregorian Calendar. The Coptic Calendar has 13 months, of which 12 months comprise of 30 days each, and a 13th month at the end of the year which usually has 5 days and 6 days in a leap year. Moreover, the Gregorian and Coptic calendars are not the only calendars. There are 5 other types of calendars, namely the Chinese Calendar, the Hebrew Calendar, the Balinese Pawukon Calendar, the Islamic Calendar and the Persian Calendar. Because of the adaptation of the Coptic Calendar, the country of Ethiopia celebrates New Year on September 11th of Gregorian Calendar! This is because the Ethiopian Calendar, as stated above, follows the Coptic Calendar which was fixed to the Julin Calendar in 25 BC by Emperor Augustus of Rome with a start date of 29 August, thus establishing the New Year on this day. Here, September 11th is based on the Gregorian Calendar, in other words, it is September 11th for the world except Ethiopia, where it is August 29th, the New year. Which might be the best title for the passage?
