1、When prices are low people will buy more, and when prices are high they will buy less. Every shopkeeper knows this. But at the same time, producers want higher prices for their goods when they make more goods. How can we find the best price for the goods? The Law of Supply and Demand is the economist’s answer to this question.According to this law, changes in the prices of goods cause changes in supply and demand. An increase in the price of the goods causes an increase in supply—the number of goods the producers make. Producers will make more goods when they can get higher prices for the goods. The producer makes more shoes as the price of shoes goes up. At the same time, an increase in the price of the goods causes a decrease in demand—the number of goods the consumers buy. This is because people buy less when the price is high. People buy fewer shoes as the price of shoes goes up. Conversely, a decrease in the price causes an increase in demand (people buy more shoes) and a decrease in supply (producers make fewer shoes).Business firms look at both supply and demand when they make decisions about prices and production. They look for the equilibrium point where supply equals demand. At this point, the number of shoes produced is 3000 and the price of the shoes is$30. $30 is the equilibrium price; at this price the consumers will buy all of the 3000 shoes which the producers make. If the producers increase the price of the shoes, or if they produce more than 3000 shoes, the consumers will not buy all of the shoes. The producers will have a surplus(过剩)—more supply than demand—so they must decrease the price in order to sell all of the shoes. On the other hand, if they make fewer than 3000 shoes, there will be a shoes shortage—more demand than supply—and the price will go up.According to the Law of Supply and Demand, the equilibrium price is the best price for the goods. The consumers and the producers will agree on this price because it is the only price that helps them both equally
Why does an increase in price cause an increase in supply()
A.Consumers buy more goods when prices are high
B.Producers want to sell all of their goods
C.Producers make more goods when prices are high
D.Consumers will not buy all of the goods
2、Why does a decrease in prices cause an increase in demand()

4、Why will consumers and producers agree on the equilibrium price()
A.It is the only price for the goods
B.It will help them both equally
C.All of the goods will be sold
D.It is the lowest price
5、When will producers have a surplus of goods()
A.When supply equals demand
B.When they sell all of their goods
C.When there is more demand than supply
D.When there is more supply than demand
6、Everyday we go to school and listen to the teacher, and the teacher will ask us some questions.Sometimes, the classmates will ask your opinions of the work of the class. When you are telling others in the class what you have found out about these topics, remember that they must be able to hear what you are saying. You are not taking part in a family conversation or having a chat(闲谈) with friends—you are in a slightly unnatural situation where a large group of people will remain silent, waiting to hear what you have to say.You must speak so that they can hear you—loudly enough and clearly enough but without trying to shout or appearing to force yourself.Remember, too, that it is the same if you are called to an interview whether it is with a professor of your school or a government official who might meet you.The person you are seeing will try to put you at your ease(轻松) but the situation is somewhat(一点儿) different from that of an ordinary conversation. You must take special care that you can be heard

16、It is not often realized that women held a high place in southern European societies in the 10th and 11th centuries. As a wife, the woman was protected by the setting up of a dowry (嫁妆). Admittedly, the purpose of this was to protect her against the risk of desertion, but in reality its function in the social and family life of the time was much more important. The dowry was the wife’s right to receive a tenth of all her husband’s property. The wife had the right to with hold consent, in all transactions the husband would make, and more than just a right; the documents show that she enjoyed a real power of decision, equal to that of her husband. In no case do the documents indicate any degree of difference in the legal status of husband and wife. The wife shared in the management of her husband’s personal property, but the opposite was not always true. Women seemed perfectly prepared to defend their own inheritance against husbands who tried to exceed their rights, and on occasion they showed a fine fighting spirit. A case in point is that of Maria Vivas. Having agreed with her husband Miro to sell a field she had inherited, for the needs of the household, she insisted on compensation. None being offered, she succeeded in dragging her husband to the scribe to have a contract duly drawn up assigning her a piece of land from Miro’s personal inheritance. The unfortunate husband was obliged to agree, as the contract says, for the sake of peace. Either through the dowry or through being hot-tempered, the wife knew how to win herself, with the context of the family, a powerful economic position

A.give a woman the right to receive all her husband’s property
B.help a woman to enjoy a higher position in the family
C.protect a woman against the risk of desertion
D.both A and C
17、According to the passage, the legal status of the wife in marriage was ______()
A.higher than that of a single woman

18、Why does the author give us the example of Maria Vivas()
A.To show that the wife shared in the management of her husband’s personal property
B.To show that the wife can defend her own inheritance
C.To prove that women have powerful position
D.To illustrate how women win her property
19、The compensation Maria Vivas got for the field is ______()
A.some of the land Miro had inherited
B.a tenth of Miro’s land
C.money for household expenses
D.money form Miro’s inheritance
20、The author’s attitude towards Maria Vivas is ______()

21、Batteries can power anything from small sensors to large systems. While scientists are finding ways to make them smaller but even more powerful, problems can arise when these batteries are much larger and heavier than the devices themselves. University of Missouri(MU) researchers are developing a nuclear energy source that is smaller, lighter and more efficient. To provide enough power, we need certain methods with high energy density(密度),said Jae Kwon, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at MU. The radioisotope(放射性同位素) battery can provide power density that is much higher than chemical batteries.Kwon and his research team have been working on building a small nuclear battery, presently the size and thickness of a penny, intended to power various micro / nanoelectromechanical systems (M/NEMS). Although nuclear batteries can cause concerns, Kwon said they are safe.People hear the word ‘nuclear’ and think of something very dangerous, he said. However, nuclear power sources have already been safely powering a variety of devices, such as pace-makers, space satellites and underwater systems. His new idea is not only in the battery’s size, but also in its semiconductor(半导体). Kwon’s battery uses a liquid semiconductor rather than a solid semiconductor. The key part of using a radioactive battery is that when you harvest the energy, part of the radiation energy can damage the lattice structure(晶体结构) of the solid semiconductor, Kwon said, By using a liquid semiconductor, we believe we can minimize that problem.Together with J. David Robertson, chemistry professor and associate director of the MU Research Reactor, Kwon is working to build and test the battery. In the future, they hope to increase the battery’s power, shrink its size and try with various other materials. Kwon said that the battery could be thinner than the thickness of human hair
